All alone in a field of crops,
I wake each morning moistened by dewdrops.
By mid-morning I'm fully dry,
Straightening my straw hat and necktie
Checking to see if I'm all intact;
On Guard! my job to attract.
Sporting my finest plaid shirt,
Below me are rows and rows of freshly plowed dirt.
My blue jeans faded, with a few sewn patches;
Borrowed socks and gloves that are mismatches.
A frayed piece of sisal rope keeps my jeans on tight,
While a splintery wooden post erects me upright.
My entire body is stuffed with a variety of things,
And my boots have holes minus their shoe strings.
My purpose is to scare the shrill-calling crow,
And to keep him away from the crops growing below.
Sometimes I succeed and sometimes not;
Still he flies to my shoulder, his favorite perching spot.
I try with all my might to scare him away;
In hopes that I'll do better than I did yesterday.
He'll peck at me and scatter my parts;
If I wasn't attached to this post, I'd tear him apart.
Why is it that I'm called a Scarecrow?
If I had a brain, the answer I would know.
So, each day I'll continue to do my best;
To rid this field of "Mr. Crow", the Pest.

These poem’s hold memories, experiences, love, faith, laughter, tears, and an amazing gift given to me from God ---- my poetry written for all.
About the Author
Her name is Kathleen Finnie Williams. She was born and raised in a quaint little community in Farmington, Illinois. She had an amazing childhood with great parents, three older sisters, and one younger brother. In 1976 she married the man of her dreams and moved to a small town called Wynne (not where) in Arkansas with a motto “City with A Smile”. They have been married for 44 years. They weren’t fortunate enough to have children (although God gave her the children of the world to love) they have one rescue dog. She loves to tole paint, do needle-arts, cook, read, Stampin’ Up, and write poetry. She has crafted all her life. You’ve heard that a baby is born with a silver spoon in its mouth --- well, she was born with a pair of scissors in her hand. God opened her eyes and ears many years ago and she would hear a word, a phrase, envision a setting, or recall a memory, and instantly, she would grab her pad and pen and a poem was created. She prays that each one will test your senses, bring you fond memories, inspiration, a smile and maybe a tear or two. We all have our talents and a purpose here on earth. She is so grateful for what God has given her, and she’s always been more than glad to share her talents and to pass them on.
