About the Author
Her writing career bloomed in her forties when she answered an ad for graduate courses on Martha’s Vineyard offered by Northeastern University, and featuring top writing teachers and famous authors. The vocation vacation lured her out of the ordinary to a new life of the mind. She became a prolific writer and taught writing workshops in New York and New England. Since then she has written 4 novels, an artist’s manual, and a compilation of poems, homilies and paintings, as well as a column in a local paper. The creation of Maypole Man began in 1982 was abandoned and revisited during the reign of Covid. As St. John restored the book with seasoned eyes, she realized how much the anxiety of the sixties is comparable to the fears of this time. After five children, nine grandchildren, a rich and productive life in the arts, St. John writes this story of the not-so-good good ol’ days with the perspective of it’s a wonderful life after all.
